March 2025 was a whirlwind of fun, connection, and creativity here at Strathpine Aged Care, with residents and staff alike embracing every opportunity to celebrate, learn, and enjoy each other’s company. From festive cultural events to exciting new clubs, birthday milestones, and even a sparkly themed party, the past month was a true reflection of our vibrant community spirit.
Pampering and Pancakes
We kicked off the month with our ever-popular Spa & Bubbles afternoon, where our lovely ladies lined up for a session of pure relaxation and pampering. Shortly after, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a delicious morning of pancake making – great work to everyone who helped flip their way to a tasty treat!
Sparkle, Surprise and Sunday Games
Our sparkle party was one for the memory books – with glittering headbands, sparkling drinks, and a bag full of surprise games, laughter filled the room. Sunday was well spent with a good old-fashioned game of Hoy, and a movie matinee paired with freshly baked Italian bread had everyone saying bellissimo, especially our lovely resident Alfonso.
New Clubs and Community Spirit
Exciting news from our weekly information meeting –our residents have voted to launch a History Club and Book Club! These initiatives are all about pursuing the passions of our residents, and we can’t wait to see what stories and pages unfold in the months ahead.
St Patrick’s Day Shenanigans
We went all out for St Patrick’s Day, starting with a detailed checklist: ✅Party Bus, ✅Party Hats, ✅Bocce, ✅Mobile Ice Cream Cart, ✅Sit to Keep Fit, and ✅Coffee Club!
The St Pat’s Party Bus took off with our Facility Manager, Karen, behind the wheel and Chef Wayne (aka Seamus McSeamus) as our enthusiastic co-pilot. The journey included Irish seated dancing at Mulligan’s Corner, a stop at the Blarney Stone Café for Shamrock Shakes and coin tosses, and a fun round of Irish Potato Bowls at The Little Shamrock Pub. Congratulations to Marilyn and Bryce for their competitive flair!
A hearty Irish Stew lunch and an afternoon of Irish Coffee and singalongs rounded off a day “to be sure, to be sure.” We also extend a big thank you to the MFK Academy of Irish Dance, whose talented performers truly brought the spirit of Ireland to life.
Easter Fun and Harmony Day
Residents got into the festive spirit with Smiley Biscuits, delicious Easter cookies, and the launch of our Easter Raffle. Tickets are selling fast, with the prize draw set for 16th April. Don’t forget to guess how many chocolate eggs are in the jar!
We also marked Harmony Day with a meaningful morning of arts and crafts, where resident Jill wowed us with her creative flair, winning a custom 2026 Commonwealth Games scarf. The theme, "We All Have a Role to Play", rang true throughout the day.
Greek Independence Day and Scenic Getaways
Yasou! We travelled (metaphorically) to the Greek island of Santorini to mark Greek Independence Day, indulging in a tasting plate of Greek delights and a staff-performed Zorba the Greek dance. With lots of laughter and talent on display, the room was filled with joy.
Our bus outings also returned this month with a fabulous visit to Norths Leagues & Services Club. Residents enjoyed a morning tea and early lunch, followed by a scenic afternoon drive and everyone's favourite – Sundae ice creams.
Celebrating Our Carer
Last but not least, we celebrated a milestone birthday for our wonderful carer, Maddie, who turned 18! Maddie, your kindness and dedication don’t go unnoticed – we hope this year brings you unforgettable memories.
